Its star-crossed replacement of the eastern span of the Oakland Bay Bridge has become an endless story in the Bay Area news media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/?attachment_id=28399\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28399\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28399\" title=\"Papermill-Crk.-bridge\" src=\"https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-Crk.-bridge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-Crk.-bridge.jpg 500w, https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-Crk.-bridge-200x134.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-Crk.-bridge-150x101.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Caltrans, which wants to spend $5.8 million replacing this bridge<\/strong>, says it has come up with four designs for a new one. In 1875, the County of Marin built the first bridge in this location. Its modern replacement was obviously built in 1929<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/?attachment_id=28401\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28401\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28401\" title=\"Papermill-bridge-with-car\" src=\"https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-bridge-with-car.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-bridge-with-car.jpg 500w, https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-bridge-with-car-200x125.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sparselysageandtimely.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Papermill-bridge-with-car-150x93.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This 100-foot-long span on Highway 1 carries approximately 3,000 vehicles per day, 4 percent of them trucks, Caltrans reports. Gunn, courtesy of Dewey Livingston<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The old Tocaloma Bridge<\/strong> was built in 1927 to carry Sir Francis Drake traffic over Papermill Creek in the town of Tocaloma, which lies 1.8 miles east of Highway 1 at Olema. The bridge was designed by J.C. Will it then become an historic relic like these?
